Seminar To Tackle the Unique Productivity Challenge in T&T
A group of experts is meeting to gain some critical insights into a storm brewing on the economic horizon – the lack of individual productivity in Trinidad and Tobago.
It’s a tough battle, says author Francis Wade, whose new book will highlight the seminar/book-launch carded for May 15th. “Productivity – a Unique Challenge for T&T” will feature a panel discussion with several thought leaders and executives, plus the introduction of his new book – “Perfect Time-Based Productivity: A unique way to protect your peace of mind as time demands increase.”
“The problem starts with a business owner who must increase worker productivity to stay competitive on the international stage,” says the author. “Unfortunately, with record low unemployment, there’s little personal incentive for a worker to make an effort. After all, managers know that if they give even the mildest feedback they may lose the employee altogether.”
Experts would agree. Boosting employee productivity in T&T is a bit different than other parts of the world which are reeling from recessionary pressures, rising unemployment and stagnant wages. Here, the issue is one of workers not having the skill, but also lacking the will to make personal improvements. According to Wade, “Smart executives are looking for ways to motivate employees to become productive in all spheres of their lives. We all want time for life balance, stress reduction, family, personal time and social commitments. In other words, employees want to experience a total benefit – even with all the daily issues like traffic woes that waste so much time.”
This is the kind of tricky questions the panel of experts will address during the event and the Q&A that follows. Economist Dr. Terrence Farrell and Guardian Group CEO Ravi Tewari are just two of its member who will headline the panel. Attendees are being promised a provocative, practical conversation intended to make a real difference.
“We want this to be more than a talk shop” explains Wade. “My book and the panel discussion are all about addressing the ‘How’ and the ‘Why’ of employee productivity. These are the kind of solutions that translate to the bottom line of most companies.”

The launch had over 75 people in attendance and was, by my estimation, an experience that far exceeded my expectations. Almost all the books were sold out and participants remarked that they got tremendous value from the evening.
The panel discussion was exceptional and could have continued for at least another 30 minutes without a drop in momentum. Special thanks to our panelists and our moderator, Peter Gales, for doing an outstanding job.
